Biomedical polymers for treating cardiovascular diseases
When endothelial cells become inflamed, they produce a molecule called E-selectin, which brings white blood cells (monocytes) to the area. That leads to dangerous plaque build-up in the arteries. We have developed a new polymer (P-Esbp) that binds selectively and with high affinity to inflamed blood vessels and reduces arterial plaque and inflammation in the cardiovascular system.
