Bioactive Drug-Free Polymers for Disease Prevention
Activated endothelial cells express adhesion molecules that recruit leukocytes to sites of inflammation, driving plaque formation in arteries. We have engineered bioactive polymers that bind selectively and with high affinity to inflamed vasculature, thereby reducing arterial plaque and inflammation in atherosclerosis. These therapeutic polymers act independently of conventional small-molecule drugs and show potential for further preventing liver injury and cancer metastasis.
